Jamestown
Below are some of the famous folks from Jamestown,
and links to their sites.....
What more needs to be said about the Queen of Comedy?
Yep, the guy who wrote the book(s) on birds hails from Jamestown too.
As a kid, it was an annual field trip to the institute every year in school.
I had the pleasure of spending some twenty years inside this building. Now home to the Robert H. Jackson Center (you know the guy from the Nuremberg Trials) it spent years as the home to the AASR Valley of Jamestown, and the offices of the Shrine Club. My Mother was the office manager there for years working for both Masonic groups.
I was slave labor stuffing thousands of envelopes as a child just to get free tickets to Midway Park...... Wait I mowed the lawn there too ... Shoveled snow there too.... Where were the child labor laws when I was a kid?
The first Grand Old Lady I fell in love with
As a kid I spent a lot of time here too... especially looking up the old theatres of Jamestown. You know we once had 14 theatres in Jamestown? Now only two (three if you count the Winter Garden that has sat empty and closed downtown for years) left.
St. Luke's Church
This is the one and only and the original Chautauqua. You know that the term "Chautauqua" was used to described the "circuit" that speakers ran in the 1800 and early 1900's.
To the local Indian tribes, Chautauqua means "bag tied in the middle" which describes Chautauqua lake.
Better than White Castles, Better than Taco Cabana, Better than bad sex, It's the one and only AJ's Texas Hots!!!
--Just for fun google AJ's Texas Hots The results give you my website Before the AJ site... Funky huh?
If you are a Swede from Jamestown - You know Ecklof's!
Long before the world heard of addicting drugs, there were
PINK STRIPE COOKIES!!!!
Okay, honestly they are these shortbread cookies with a pink stripe down the center. An elegant yet simple thing right??
NO!!
For as long as I can remember you always got a free one when you went to the bakery. A fiendish plan as you slowly over time became addicted to them!
Now every trip home it's cookies, scorpers, almond tarts, and limpa bread. The last time I went home a got a cheap flight from Tampa International home for $99.00. I spent $115.00 at Ecklof's for my fix!!!!!
So a return trip to Florida always consists of Ecklof's food, AJ sauce, Grandma Brown Baked Beans and Lean's pizza.
You know after reading that you'd think that I like food!
